Symptoms are: random engine missing and surging at under half throttle, regardless of whether the throttle is steady, rolling closed or open (decel or accel). TPS sensor probably began failing sometime last year (2017) when the bike had approximately 110,000 miles of the 123,000 miles it has on it, when this video was taken. The fuel pump also failed around this time and I should have replaced the original fuel filter as well, but waited until 2018 to do that. So multiple failures of unrelated equipment made troubleshooting a difficult challenge. This is showing the TPS sensor readings, a mechanical sensor attached to the throttle body end shaft. Rotating the throttle slowly open, holding WOT, then slowly closing, results in readings that show wear at about where I typically hold the throttle steady at highway speeds. At that opening, the TPS throws out all sorts of crazy numbers, which then causes the ECU to think that the throttle is nervously being rotated back and forth. This TPS was replaced with one that sends out the more normal linear type numbers. It took two subsequent rides after TPS replacement for the ECU to reset itself to the new TPS readings.
