Rayleigh Taylor Instabilities arise when a denser fluid is on top of the lighter fluid and a perturbation is introduced. For a given value of surface tension and density difference between the two fluids, there exists a critical wave number of the initial perturbation, above which the heavier fluid will stay on top of the lighter fluid, and below which the heavier fluid moves downwards.,
